Who ya gonna call, this time? :D

Well, here it is. The fruits of my labor. My favorite cartoon merged with my all time favorite movie. I went with softer shading and fooled around with a few other techniques. I was going for the scene where the containment unit is shut down and all the ghosts escape, flooding the city. Except I substituted the ghosts with the spirit reapers the Titans encountered in the library during “The Prophecy” and had them surging from the sky as Trigon begins his descent towards Earth. I still see some room for tweaking, but it’s definitely another step in the right direction in terms of improvement for me. I hope this lives up to the hype with the two coming attraction posters I did.

-Cast-
Dr. Peter Venkman … BeastBoy
Dr. Ray Stantz … Control Freak
Dr. Egon Spengler … Cyborg
Dana Barrett … Raven
Gozer … Trigon
The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man … The Source
Slimer … Silkie

BeastBoy definitely struck me as a close resemblance of Peter. A scientist who knows the least about science. The wise cracking comic relief of the team. His love interest in Dana was also a selling point for me (given who I made Dana). Surprisingly, BeastBoy was the hardest of the three to draw solely because of his small build fitting into a baggy jumpsuit. I tried my best to make his proportions look right in a costume that wasn’t skintight, as he’s used to.

Control Freak reminded me so much of Ray, partially from the movie, partially from the cartoon. A guy with both a fixation of science fiction and comic books on top of his enthusiasm for his field. (In the cartoon, Ray was somewhat of a fanboy as well) Control Freak, though my first time drawing, was a lot of fun.

Cyborg as Egon? Yeah, I know. Why not Raven? Well, Egon was someone who could be overly serious with a small sense of sarcastic humor, but he also had to be a brilliant mind that could design and build the proton packs and all the other equipment. While I agree Raven has more of a fascination in the supernatural, I felt this role would definitely work for Cyborg. Believe it or not, at one point I was actually considering Gizmo for this role. Cyborg was less of a headache to draw because I didn’t have to worry about excessive work on his armor details and cybernetic parts due to them being shielded by clothing.

While the damsel in distress isn’t a role Raven is really suited for, I just saw so many similarities between both how Gozer used Dana and how Trigon used Raven as hosts to open a portal into our world. Plus her early deterrence towards Peter seemed fitting. (Example: Slamming the door in his face after she kicks him out and he asks for a kiss) Raven was no big either, though it took 4 sketches before I could decide on the right pose. I was going to have a faded reflection off to the side of her rage side possessing her, but decided not to.

Silkie, ideally could pass as Slimer from his performance in the episode “Can I Keep Him”, eating everything in sight, and later becoming the teams pet. Yet another similarity compared to Slimer remaining with the Ghostbusters.

Maybe, if this pic brings in the approval I’m hoping for, I’ll do a sequel. I already have an idea for casting Malchior as Vigo the Carpathian. (A guy trapped in a painting, compared to a guy trapped in a book? Coincidence? I think not :D)
